The Race Is On!
| The winner of 'The Great Big Beaver Challenge!' will be first beaver to visit 27 special caches, one with a name beginning with each letter of the alphabet and one with a weirdy name that starts with a number. We've got until the 31st September 2011 to complete the mission and if no-one gets a full set by that point then the beaver with the most letters collected will win. Last Day!
Today is the last day of the race. We will be posting the results of the race in about 1 week time, this is so we can give cachers some time to log any visits by the travelbug.

Bruce - MIA
Looks like Bruce is missing in action. After being in the hands of a cacher for over 3 months, he got dropped on 27 July. Four days later he was reported as missing from the cache, and hasn't been seen since. :(

Reveab is on the move!
Thanks to BV51 for picking up reveab!
After languishing for over 2 months in a very difficult multi-cache.

How to help a travelbug in a race ...
Though we are grateful to people who help travel bugs in travelbugs in races, a simple tip for those who would like to help....
please place travel bugs in traditional cache and not multi-cache
my travel bug has been placed in a multi-cache with a difficulty of 4/5 with a 4km walk........
thanks very much ;-(

Next Year's Race
I know it's a bit early but I reckon we might already have the theme for our next race. As it is traditionally inspired by the loser of the previous race I'm guessing on next years theme being....
Beer.
Now, to some of you, it may not be clear why I've come up with this theory but that's coz I've got a little (or not so little in this case) insider info.
Rich, in a moment of inspiration/mental-spazisity, decided that to represent the beaver on his travel bug with a beer-pump clip. The more alcoholicly inclined of you will be aware they ain't exactly small and now he's not found anywhere big enough to stick his bug.
So at present, 2 months into a 6 month race, he hasn't launched yet. Start looking now for your beer inspired tag dangler.

Google Docs is playing up
You may, or may not (depending on if you've scored lately (in the challenge not in real life (we're all too geeky for that sort of thing (except where we managed to find another geek)))) have noticed that the published-public version of the score chart no longer has the 'Edit this page' link at the bottom.
Dunno why - there are several open queries on the Google Docs help forum. In the meantime you'll have to log into Google and find the document there.
Bloody 'pooters - all rubbish an' stuff init!

What is wrong with people??!! `
What it so difficult to understand about TB races? My bug was picked up the day after I placed it and that person held onto it for a month. The day after they placed it it was picked up by someone else who has now had it for three weeks! If they'd left it where it was it might have been picked up and dropped off numerous times by now!!
Rant over. :-)

Majavat may be lost :-(
The cache that Majavat was placed in yesterday is now offline after being 'spoilt by local kids'. I'm not sure if Majavat was still in it as, between him being dropped off, and the cache being taken offline someone did post that they had picked up a couple of trackables. We'll have to wait and see.....

Course De Castor moves on...
On 24th I decided it was time to increase my visited cache count, by visiting a loop in Bucklebury. Dropped off Castor in the second cache then chased Dogastus around the loop. Dogastus picked up Castor and dropped him off the same day in Andover (Year of Caching). As luck would have it, he was picked up the same day by Agincort, and hopefully will soon visit his second cache soon...

Ray and Well Hung...
After a few confusions regarding his travels (check his page out and see if you can work out what happened) Ray Winstone is up to three points and has been picked up again.
Well Hung Beaver has his first point but has good early milage as he's gone 236 miles to score.

One of my favourite caches!
Excitingly Space Cadet is now residing in one of the best caches of all time - Cold War Cache. It may not be new but it's so worth making a special trip for we should move on soon and keep our lead up!!

So far.... so good!

Well Space Cadet was launched yesterday, and has already moved and scored a point! We launched it in a new cache called Bedtime Stories that although needed some puzzles to be solved we had a hunch would be very popular. And so it appeared. It's now in Bourton in another fairly new cache awaiting being moved on.
Possible First Casualty
I've just had notification that Reveab is not the launch cache anymore.
I've contacted the last 5 cachers to see whether they've picked up the TB.
I can only think he's gone missing .... at least I've found out at this early stage, I'm preparing backup TB in case.
Majavat is launched
Launched my Majavat today near the Cunning Man after lunch with friends. Rich's Eager Beaver is still not on his way though as he was too big to fit in the cache!!
Crip's Away.
Following a quick off-road crutching trip 'Well Hung Beaver' and 'Ray Winstone' are launched in Henley.
We figured the rest of you had enough of a headstart and it was time to destroy you all!
